ATIEL & UEIL Joint Sustainability Committee (JSC) announces that its re-certified Methodology for Product Carbon Footprint Calculations for Lubricants, Greases and other Specialties has been included in the Catena-X Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) Rulebook, thus supporting harmonised PCF data exchange across connected value chains. Once the updated Catena-X PCF Rulebook v4.1 is published in Q3 2026, the ATIEL and UEIL methodology is accepted for Catena-X reporting, provided that lubricant manufacturers apply the requirements and clarifications set out in the Catena-X annex.
Catena‑X, the automotive industry’s collaborative data ecosystem, aims to ensure consistent, comparable and interoperable PCF data across the entire supply chain. By defining harmonised cradle‑to‑gate PCF rules, the Catena‑X Rulebook reduces ambiguity and strengthens supplier–OEM data compatibility.
Originally published in 2023 and recertified by TÜV Rheinland in 2025, the ATIEL and UEIL PCF-methodology offers a practical, ISO 14067 aligned PCF calculation framework tailored to lubricant and specialty fluid formulations. Its reference in the Catena-X Rulebook supports interoperability between lubricant PCF data and automotive value chain reporting, while recognising the need to apply Catena-X specific annex requirements.
Marco Digioia, President of ATIEL, commented: “ATIEL welcomes this important step toward global harmonisation. Lubricants and specialty fluids are essential to every vehicle platform, and alignment with the Catena-X Rulebook supports our sector’s ability to deliver PCF data in an interoperable format that meets automotive reporting expectations.”
Mattia Adani, President of UEIL, added: “This milestone reflects the industry’s commitment to transparency and trust in sustainability reporting. Referencing our sector specific methodology in the Catena-X PCF Rulebook strengthens data quality and facilitates effective PCF data exchange across the automotive value chain.”
