ATIEL releases Code of Practice Issue 25 further to the publication of the ACEA Oil Sequences 2024 for Heavy Duty Vehicles

ATIEL, the Technical Association of the European Lubricants Industry, has released Issue 25 of its Code of Practice, that provides guidelines for the development of engine oils which meet the latest European ACEA specifications.

ACEA 2024 specifications updated the Heavy-Duty Sequences. Published in October 2024 as the successor for the 2022 ACEA Heavy-Duty oil sequences, their most significant change was the introduction of a new engine oil category F01, which has specific viscosity requirements in comparison to E11-24 oil specifications.

This Issue 25 of the ATIEL Code of Practice (CoP) is published by ATIEL and comes into effect on March 11th, 2025. It supersedes Issue 24. Issue 24 of the CoP remains available on the ATIEL website, for valid claims against ACEA 2022 Heavy Duty sequences, until October 1st, 2026.

Issue 25 considers the ACEA Sequence 2024 for HD engine oils.

The ATIEL Code of Practice – in operation since 1996 – has been developed jointly by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), the Additives Technical Committee (ATC) and ATIEL.
This Code of Practice has been devised by ATIEL on behalf of the European engine lubricants industry, including developers, marketers and manufacturers of lubricants and forms an integral part of the European Engine Lubricants Quality Management System (EELQMS). It is intended to aid continuous improvement in the development of engine lubricants and the consistency and validity of performance claims made for them.

The European lubricants industry ensures that engine oils continue to contribute to improved wear protection, deposit control, lower emissions, and fuel economy CO₂ emissions efficiency. The CoP Issue 25 is available on the ATIEL website.
